RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A big upswing in the number of people taking trips this weekend in Virginia.
The extra day off from work is definitely helping many drive far away from home this 4th of July holiday weekend.
AAA says the number of Americans traveling this holiday weekend will increase more than 17 percent from last year to 35 million travelers. Nearly a million of them are Virginians.
The airlines are likely to be busier this year too - up over eight percent from a year ago.
Gas prices are also dropping. The price for a gallon of regular gas in metro Richmond is down a penny since Sunday, sitting at an average of $2.56.
