UPDATE: Virginia Beach teen killed in New Kent crash

NEW KENT, VA (WWBT) - A Virginia Beach teenager has died following a motor vehicle crash in New Kent County that took place Thursday evening. 

At 9:10 p.m., Virginia State Police were called to the scene on Interstate 64 westbound, just west of the West Point exit, mile marker 220. 

A 2007 Toyota Scion was traveling westbound on Interstate 64 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway striking several trees. 

The driver, Jennifer L. Pannell, 21, was seriously injured in the crash and was transported by ambulance to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond.

The front seat passenger, Logan N. Taylor, 19, was seriously injured in the crash and was transported by ambulance to VCU where she later died. 

After further investigation, it has been determined that neither the driver, Pannell, nor the passenger, Taylor, were wearing their safety belts at the time of yesterdays crash.  The crash remains under investigation at this time. 

Both were on traveling to Stuarts Draft at the time of the crash.
