RICHMOND, VA (WWBT)- From law enforcement to sales, so far, 70 different companies and agencies said they'll be at a job fair hosted by Congressman Cantor. And they're *really* looking to hire now.
All you need is a high school diploma and you can apply for one of 15 to 20 open firefighter positions in Chesterfield.
"In the open application process like we're doing now, where you don't need any experience, it's been about 2 or 3 years since we've done this," said Rick Edinger of Chesterfield Fire and EMS.
With a starting salary of 39-thousand plus benefits, fire officials already know the demand for these jobs is going to be high, especially if they market it at a job fair.
More than 300 people have already applied since the jobs posted one week ago.
Edinger says "We love going to job fairs, it lets us reach out to the local community and particularily when we're hiring as we are right now, it let's the community know there are positions available."
Clear across town at the West End Carmax lot on West Broad Street. The company is turning for the better after hundreds were laid off in recent years.
Erin Punay from Mid Atlantic Carmax HR says, "The positions that we lost, we're looking to rehire."
Carmax also joined the list of employers attending next month's job fair.
"Certainly Richmond and Midlothian they're all hiring particularly in sales, some of our operations positions."
Carmax is hiring four in operations and many more in sales. Qualifications you ask?
"We look for more the passion for interacting for customers, passion for working for a good company and integrity," says Punay
Most employers have jobs posted on the company website or the county and government website.
The job fair will be July 13 at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen. And it's free!
