PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) – A Petersburg family is pleading for the public's help tonight. Their loved one, 22-year-old Brandon Mason, was found shot to death in a yard in the 900 block of Rome Street.

Family members say they don't know who killed Mason, but they do believe robbery was the motive behind the murder. When Mason's body was found his clothes and shoes were missing -- he was left only wearing socks, underwear, and a T-shirt.

22-year-old Brandon Mason was also known as Nooney. No one expected his young life to be cut short.

"It's really hard right now because he was young and really close to his family. It's just really hard and sad," said the victim's cousin Tanya Jefferson.

Nooney's body was found in a stranger's yard on Rome Street in Petersburg around two o'clock Wednesday morning. He had been shot. His personal belongings missing.

"I really believe whoever did this -- they robbed him. He could have been set-up or somebody wanted to take what they believe he had," Jefferson said.

Kawonda Tucker's sister spotted Nooney's body when she pulled into the yard to park her car.

"It's kind of scary because you don't know if it was intended for him or something else," she said.

Tucker's sister ran to a neighbor for help. He ask we not reveal his identity. He said, "I thought he was just hurt. So me and a couple of other guys went over there and asked him if he was okay. He didn't say anything."

Nooney's family says he has friends who live on Rome Street, but they don't know why he was in that area early Wednesday morning. Now, they're asking for your help.

"I really want anybody who knows anything to just come up front so the family can have peace," said Jefferson.

For now, family members wait, wonder and remember.

"He was funny, goofy, and just somebody fun to be around he had a lot of friends and was really laid back," said Jefferson.
