Deputy dies after June 11 crash into VCU Medical Center

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Sheriff C.T. Woody, Jr. announced the death of Deputy Caroline Green, 51, a two-year veteran of the Richmond Sheriff's Office.

On June 11, Deputy Green was involved in a single vehicle crash that struck the side of Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center (VCUMC). The cause of the accident is being investigated by the VCU Police Department. As a result of the accident, she remained hospitalized.

On Saturday, after undergoing several medical operations, Deputy Green passed away. The cause of death can not be determined until an autopsy has been completed later today.

Woody said, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Deputy Green. It's just tearing us apart. She was a dedicated and hard working deputy who always came to work with a great disposition and broad smile."

Counseling services for employees of the Sheriff's office will be made available through the Department of Human Resources.

As a sign of respect for Deputy Green, Sheriff's office employees shall wear black mourning bands across their badges until after the funeral services are held. Deputy Green's family has been notified of her death, and funeral arrangements for are pending at this time.
