CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – School may be out for summer, But Chester Middle School is officially on it's way out. Students like Faith Miller would do anything just to have one more day at the beloved school.
"There was tears all over the place," said Faith Miller. "Everyone was crying."
6th, 7th and 8th graders are well aware next year the home of the Eagles will be the new home to Thomas Dale freshman. The change will alleviate over-crowding at the nearby high school. As a result, Chester Middle School students will attend Davis or Carver. Meredith Short isn't happy about the switch.
"We were all looking forward to coming here because we knew everybody was coming here," said Meredith Short. "But now we're being split apart."
But the one thing that will forever tie this students together: end-of-the-year awards. Parent Ronald Dent admits during the assembly, he got emotional.
"It was kind of bittersweet," said Ronald Dent. "When they announced some of the awards it was the last time those awards could be made at Chester Middle."
Mom Celeste says it's going to be strange to drive by next year- when it's still a school, but not CMS.
"Chester Middle has been a big staple in the Chester community," said Celeste Dent. "And it is going to be sad to see that none of the middle schoolers will be able to come here- to get that experience."
Though Friday's experience was positive. Students will forever remember the tears, hugs and the final walk home- which marked the end for Chester Middle.
