RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A court date has been set on a lawsuit over the location of a slave burial ground under a Virginia Commonwealth University parking lot in Shockoe Bottom.
A judge will hear the case on July 1.
Former city councilman Sa'ad El-Amin is seeking to force testing to determine the boundaries of the burial ground under the parking lot.
The suit is against the director of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.
El-Amin says it's the state's responsibility to do the work.
VCU has said it would make the site available for exploration, but would not pay for it.
