Man shot at Stafford Market Place

STAFFORD, VA (WWBT) – The Stafford County Sheriff's Office announced that a shooting took place this morning at 4:29 a.m. in the area of the Lowes and T.J. Maxx store in the Stafford Market Place.

At 4:29 a.m. this morning the Sheriff's Office Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call from the front gate at the Aquia Harbor subdivision.  Dispatch was advised that a male victim, age 37, had been shot while driving his vehicle.

Deputies responded to the scene.  The victim said he was driving to work, cutting through the Stafford Market Place in the area of the Lowes and T.J. Maxx store, when he heard a blast sound and his back window shattered followed by a hole in the front windshield.

His driver side head rest had a rip in it where, it appeared, an object had grazed it.  The victim was trying to find a hospital when he came upon the front gate of Aquia Harbor.  Police from the Aquia Harbor Police Department were called to the scene as well as Stafford Sheriff's Deputies.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released for his minor injuries.  At this time it is unclear if the victim suffered injuries from a bullet fragment or flying glass from the window of the car he was driving.

The victim was not able to give any type of description of a possible suspect nor does he know of any reason why someone would shoot at his car or himself.  The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is asking that if anyone has any information about this incident to contact the Sheriff's Office at 540-658-4400.
