CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – The James River Advisory Council held its 11th Annual James River Regional Cleanup on Saturday at several sites throughout the greater Richmond area.
In all, there were 1,007 volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to clean up the river. Most of them canvassed the river bank on foot, but volunteers also rode around the James in 17 power boats and paddled 63 canoes/kayaks to get this messy job done.
They filled 495 bags with trash. Another 286 bags were filled with recyclable materials. Volunteers also pulled some strange items out of the water including an entire car frame, a paddle boat, 86 tires, a 55-gallon drum, a Kentucky Fried Chicken employee uniform and even an LP record.
