CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – The graffiti had already been cleaned up as the class of 2010 at Monacan High School arrived Friday. But earlier someone tagged the building with sexually graphic images and words. School officials aren't treating this as just a senior prank.
"It's gone way beyond a prank," said Chesterfield County Schools spokesperson, Shawn Smith. "You're talking about several thousand dollars in damages. Ultimately, in comparison, if you look at a small business who might walk upon their business the following morning and see several thousands of dollars in damages - that could put them out of business."
This is the second time a Chesterfield County school has seen this type of vandalism in less than 24 hours. Police are not ruling out a connection between the two crimes.
"Anytime during this year, time of graduation, there's an increase in vandalism at school property which is why we have heightened patrols," said Chesterfield Police Captain, Russ Lescault.
The graffiti at Monacan was significantly less than at Cosby the day before but Smith insists the crime is just as damaging. Once the person or persons responsible are caught they could face felony charges.
