Culpeper police charge three teens in robbery

CULPEPER, VA (WWBT) - Culpeper police have arrested three teenagers in connection with a robbery Wednesday night in Yowell Meadow Park.

Thursday night, police arrested a 16-year-old Culpeper boy on a charge of robbery. He and two other teens allegedly robbed another 16-year-old boy, who was assaulted and had his wallet stolen. All three teens fled on bicycles.

Late Thursday afternoon police secured a robbery arrest warrant for 18-year-old Ronnie Settle, and petitions charging two juvenile males with the Yowell Meadow Park robbery.

The 16-year-old was taken into custody about 8 p.m. Thursday at his home. Police spent the night and the following day trying to locate the two other suspects.

Settle was arrested Friday afternoon at police headquarters where he turned himself in. He faces a single robbery charge, also in connection with the robbery in Yowell Meadow Park.

A 17-year-old Culpeper male, the third suspect in the park robbery, also turned himself into police Friday afternoon in connection with the robbery in the park.

Police suspect the three teens also are responsible for an assault and possible robbery attempt of a 27-year-old man about 9:49 p.m. in the 100 block of Aberdeen Road. Police also believe some of the same teens may be involved in other robberies in town during the last six weeks, but the investigations into those crimes are continuing.

Interim Police Chief Chris Jenkins said the investigation into other unsolved robberies is ongoing and more charges may be placed against the trio already in custody and possibly other individuals.

The both juveniles are being detained. Settle remains in jail.
