RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - There could be less traffic across one Richmond bridge making your commute a little faster. VDOT put a new weight limit on the aging Huguenot Bridge.

Now big trucks and buses have to find another way to get back and forth from North and South Richmond.

The three ton weight limit comes after engineers found a deteriorated concrete pier cap on the bridge's south end during an inspection.

VDOT wants trucks and buses to use the Willey Bridge.

The sidewalk that runs south is also closed, leaving only the north sidewalk open for those who walk along the bridge.

The 61-year-old bridge can still handle traffic from regular cars and trucks.

VDOT has signs up about this change. Repair plans are already in the works.

Construction on a brand-new Huguenot Bridge is expected to start in the fall with a price tag of $65 million.
