UPDATE: I-95 ramp reopens after fuel & watermelon spill

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – Police say speed was a factor in an accident that closed a ramp off Interstate 95 for most of the day.

It happened about 9:30 Friday morning, on the ramp to 288 North.

According to investigators, the tractor trailer struck about 150 feet of guard rail before overturning. It spilled about 30 gallons of diesel fuel, and some of its cargo of watermelons.

Cleanup last until almost 5:30 p.m. The driver is charged with reckless driving.

Tractor trailer driver Terry L. Fisher of Dunn, N.C., 50, has been charged with reckless driving.  Speed is a factor in the crash, according to state police. He was transporting the melons from Autryville, N.C., to Gordonsville.
