6 new possible Richmond jail locations

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Six proposals now sit on the table as possible locations for the new City of Richmond jail. Councilwoman Reva Trammell believes the Phillip Morris USA building is one of those sites.

"They have said that they have looked at this site," said Trammell. "This was a great location because I had so much land over here this would be an ideal place for the jail."

We found a for sale sign here on the property and our sources tell us that a bid has already been put in but that it is sealed. Trammell wants all the residents in her district to know that a jail could likely be built here."

"I represent the people and I think I need to get it out to the people to let them know what's going to happen in our 8th district," said Trammell.

People in the district we spoke with, however, don't seem to mind the idea of jail operating in their area.

"I would assume the City of Richmond would manage their jails fairly well," said one resident.

While city officials will not confirm the actual locations mentioned in the jail proposals, Trammell tells us her sources have confirmed this location is being looked at. She hopes to meet with people who live in this area to answer questions and concerns.

The meeting is being held at the Satellite Restaurant and Lounge at 4000 Jefferson Davis Highway in Richmond on June 17 from 6-8 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
