Revitalizing Richmond's East End

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Hundreds came out tonight to get their first look at plans to revitalize Richmond's East End.

Mayor Dwight Jones addressed the standing-room only crowd.

He told them it will be up to the community to decide how to plan for new homes, stores and schools. He says he wants to return the neighborhood to a vibrancy it hasn't seen in a long time.

This is the first of many meetings, open to the public, to plan for changes in the Nile Mile Road corridor.

The complete schedule of upcoming meetings is listed below.

All of the East End Initiative meetings will take place at the Family Resource Center, located at 2405 Jefferson Avenue, unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, June 2:

Police/Fire/Safety Meeting: 10-11 a.m.

Housing/Retail and Developers Meeting: 1-2 p.m. 

Opening Presentation: 5-6:30 p.m. at the Robinson Theatre 

Thursday, June 3:

Community Health, Senior and Faith Organization Meeting:
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

Studio Open House: 6 p.m.-8 p.m. 

Friday June 4:

Philanthropy and Foundations Meeting: 10 a.m.-11 a.m. 

Saturday June 5
Youth and Family Meeting:  11 a.m.-1 p.m. 

Monday June 7:
Closing Presentation: 5-6:30 p.m. at the Robinson Theatre

    Virginia Commonwealth University issued an alert about a robbery at the heart of its Monroe Park campus. Just after 9:00 p.m. Saturday, Richmond Police got a report of a robbery in an alley off the 800 block of West Grace Street, which is near several of the student dorms.
