BRUNSWICK, VA (WWBT) – Two people have been declared dead as the result of a tractor trailer accident on I-85 near mile marker 24 in Brunswick County, according to Virginia State Police.
A tractor trailer having trouble with the left front axle ran off the road to the right and struck several trees. The truck became fully engulfed in flames, killing the two people in the truck. The accident happened around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The bodies were burned beyond recognition and authorities said identification and notification of next of kin will take some time.
All lanes are expected to remain closed through rush hour on Interstate 85 south at mile marker 24.
The following detour is in place, Route 1 (off at Exit 24 or Exit 28) the return to I-85 at Exit 15 in South Hill. Detour is working well and there are no reported back ups at this time. Motorists should avoid the area if possible.
