HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - New developments in a homicide case that began Saturday night. Henrico Police tell NBC12 that the body recovered Sunday afternoon in the James River is that of murder suspect Hassan Ibrahim Ahmad Al-Sari.

Al-Sari, 50, was wanted on a charge of first degree murder in the death of Kate Johnson, 40. Police say Johnson was fatally shot Saturday around 10:45 p.m. in the Clarion Hotel parking lot, located on the 5200 block of Williamsburg Road. Police have not specified what led to the shooting, but family members told NBC12 the pair had been in a relationship for three years.

Sunday afternoon, police responded to the James River near the Rocketts Landing neighborhood where they recovered a body. An identification and subsequent connection to the homicide was not made clear until this morning.

Al-Sari died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to a spokesperson with the state Medical Examiner's office.
