RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – 25 pounds of marijuana is now off the streets thanks to the Richmond Police Department. Officers believe someone carrying this much weed on them had one main purpose

"Distribute," said Officer Toney Waldorf. "Either distribute it, or be a carrier for somebody else. At this point it's still an ongoing investigation."

Officers have charged 33-year-old William Bowman with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was caught after being clocked for speeding last Saturday night. Bowman was pulled over on Main Street which is also on the VCU campus. Officers thought this was just a routine traffic stop for speeding but they found more than just a lead foot.

"(We) located 3 bags of marijuana in clear bags in the back seat," said Waldorf. "(We) continued searching the vehicle and located over 7,000 in currency from the vehicle and on the person as well as 3,000 in money orders."

People who live near Bowman scattered when we showed them his picture and asked when they knew about him. They did tell us weed is commonly sold and used on the block where he lives.
