Powhatan man dies in morning single-car crash

POWHATAN, VA (WWBT) - A Powhatan man died early Thursday morning in a crash that took place at 6:36 a.m. State Police were was called to Route 13 (Old Buckingham Road) approximately half of a mile east of Route 609 (Giles Bridge Road).

The man was traveling east on Route 13, when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road striking an embankment and overturning several times.

The driver of the car, Kenneth R. Hoover, 28, of Powhatan, was not wearing his safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Hoover was seriously injured in the crash and was transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Hospital.  Hoover later died at the hospital from his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Since Monday, with the start of the Click It or Ticket campaign and with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, motorists are reminded to always buckle up each and every time they are traveling inside a vehicle.
