RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Prepare to see long lines if you need to go to a State office to take care of some business. Friday is "Furlough Friday" for most state agencies.

Thursday will be the last day most state offices will be serving anyone, in person.

Employees at the DMV, like most other state workers, will be off on Friday for a mandated furlough day, then, for the rest of the holiday weekend.

The message from the DMV is clear: avoid any procrastinating on Thursday because you could be out of luck on Friday.

The customer service centers will be fully staffed Thursday and next Tuesday. You'll even notice more open windows to help get people in and out the door.

Some things like getting a license renewed can be done online, and the DMV and some other agencies will still be open online.

The DMV advises that if you can take care of your business online, make sure to print out a receipt and carry it with you.
