RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Court records in the University of Virginia lacrosse murder case will remain private for now.
A judge dismissed a petition from a group of newspapers to have an order that sealed search warrants and other documents in the case against George Huguely unsealed.
Huguely is accused of first degree murder in the death of 22 year old Yeardley Love.
Attorneys for the publishers of the Charlottesville Daily Progress, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Associated Press and the Washington Post argued knowing why the records were sealed is the first step towards possibly getting them open.
The judge dismissed the case on a technicality but told the media group it could re-file. Huguely remains behind bars at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
