Man wanted for assault of officer has been captured

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Acting on a Crime Stoppers tip, Richmond Police tonight captured a man wanted for assaulting a police officer earlier this month in Gilpin Court.

Willie Clayborne Coley Jr., 34, was wanted for striking an officer in the head and face with a gun the night of May 15. The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

Tuesday, shortly after 9 p.m., officers arrived at the Chamberlayne Motel on Azalea Avenue. Coley was taken into custody as he attempted to flee a room in the motel through a back window. Although he was armed with a handgun, Coley was taken into custody without incident.

Participating in Coley's capture was the officer he had assaulted.

The Crime Stoppers tipster will now be eligible for a $1,000 reward from Crime Stoppers and additional $1,000 reward from the Richmond Police Department.
