Man charged with robbing a Petersburg fashion shop

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - On Saturday at 5:21 p.m., Petersburg police responded to Simply Fashions located at 2047 South Crater Road in reference to an armed robbery.

According to police, a male suspect entered the store and browsed as if he were shopping.  He approached an employee from behind with a sharp object and demanded money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, the suspect fled the store and drove off. 

Witnesses gave police a detailed description of the car, suspect and his clothing.  Officers quickly detained the suspect, 47-year-old  Thomas Franklin, III, of Petersburg.

He is currently being held without bond while awaiting his court appearance. He faces charges of commercial robbery and abduction.
