RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It'll be a busy night for the Richmond city council as they work to control all the recent violence in Shockoe Bottom and slash millions of dollars from its own budget.
Two murders in two weeks, along with a shooting and other safety concerns.
That's the reality that many in Shockoe Bottom and the surrounding area are dealing with these days.
And in the last few weeks, police have stepped up their presence downtown to control the problem.
Now councilman Charles Samuels and the rest of city council is looking toward a long term solution.
Tonight, a night club ordinance will be proposed.
We're told councilman Samuels wants to require club promoters to get a license.
And the city is looking at making sure security is at every bar.
All this could allow the city to regulate any bad behavior by either fining businesses or taking away their licenses.
As for the budget, millions of dollars are likely gong to be cut, but the good news: the tax rate would stay the same.
