RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - This morning we have some important information for drivers in Hanover county.

Starting Monday morning, you can take an express bus ride from Mechanicsville to Richmond.

GRTC is providing the service for $6 round trip.

The first pick up in Mechanicsville is at 7.

Leaders at GRTC are hoping to provide commuters with a new transportation alternative.

The bus will pick folks up at the Park in Ride located just past the intersection of Old Mechanicsville Turnpike and Cold Harbor road at 7, 7:30 or 8 and deliver them to downtown Richmond in a 20 minute express ride.

GRTC says that ride will provide commuters a relaxing alternative to fighting traffic on a coach bus with reclining seats and convenient overhead storage, wi-fi access, and even a bathroom on board.

They hope passengers will help save the environment while saving wear and tear on their cars and avoiding high gas costs.

For more information about the new service, call 358-GRTC or visit ridegrtc.com.

GRTC received a federal grant to pay for this new route for at least 3 years.

The state is allowing the use of the park and ride.

Hanover county leaders have said they are excited about this new option.

Similar service to Ashland, Fredericksburg and Chesterfield has been a success.
