Overhead road sign on I-295 collapses, lanes back open

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - All lanes are back open after an interstate sign fell on I-295 this afternoon.

All northbound lanes at 49 mile marker were closed for several hours, bringing traffic to a stand-still.

State police say that a vehicle struck the supporting pole, causing the sign to fall.

The driver, 49 year old Michael A. Edwards of Richmond, is recovering at the VCU Medical Center. Police have charged him with a DUI and refusal to submit to an alcohol test.
