Car collides with fuel pump, fire ensues

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police are still looking for two people who fled the scene of a gas station crash.

It happened at the Citgo station at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Hull Street.

Witnesses tell us the car was originally parked in front of the store when the driver accelerated into the wall.

The car then sped in reverse, hit another vehicle, then a gas pump before starting a fire.

"Flames were everywhere," said eyewitness Chi Chi Amobi. "I thought the whole store was about to burn down. The two passengers inside it, I don't know where they are. They ran away from the scene. It looked like one was badly burned. I didn't think he was going to make it alive."

Police tell us no one spoke to the driver or passenger of the totaled car.

No word tonight on the extent of any injuries.

The manager of the gas station says, given how close the pumps are, he's lucky the damage wasn't worse.
