RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Crews finished up their work and reopened the bridge at six o'clock Thursday morning.

They've been removing sand and debris, replacing lights and trimming trees along the bridge since midnight Wednesday night.

Representatives from the Richmond Metropolitan Authority hope the overnight timeframe didn't inconvenience too many people.

RMA checked its records and found that midnight to six in the morning is the time this bridge is the least traveled.

Shutting down the bridge is safer for the contractors versus just lane closures.

Plus the routine maintenance on this 85-year-old gateway between Westover Hills, Carytown and the Fan is a necessity.

Now, you should notice a cleaner bridge with less debris, more lighting and less over-hanging limbs.
