HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A recently completed routine audit of the Henrico County Division of Police revealed two "issues," but generally gave the department high marks.
The internal audit, dated March 24, but not posted publicly until late last week, was designed to identify and evaluate control procedures.
According to the document, the Division of Police recorded approximately $70 million in expenses during the most recent budget year. The auditor examined a random sample of FY09 transactions and marked two areas for improvement:
1) Controls over timely settlement of travel expenses.
2) Controls with respect to ensuring leave.
The county auditor recommended various steps for Division of Police employees to process travel expenses and leave requests more efficiently. You can view the entire 31-page PowerPoint document by clicking the link at right.
