Chris Brown to appear at one of two Richmond Census rallys

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – The city of Richmond has announced it is holding two 2010 Census Rally events Tuesday to encourage 2010 Census participation.

Mayor Dwight C. Jones will join Virginia Union University President Dr. Claude Perkins, recording artist Chris Brown, Radio One Community Affairs Director Clovia Lawrence and 2010 Census Committee Members at a north side Census Rally to be held at Henderson Square, located on the campus of Virginia Union University, 1500 North Lombardy Street.

Clovia Lawrence, Mistress of Ceremonies, will kick off the rally at 12:30 p.m. Mayor Jones, Dr. Perkins and Chris Brown will all deliver remarks stressing the importance of 2010 Census participation in the city of Richmond. Brown is serving his community service requirement for beating his ex-girlfriend pop star rihanna.

The City is Richmond is hoping the music star's appearance at an event on the city's northside  will help encourage people to fill out their census forms.

Although the deadline to mail back the census has come and gone, you still have time to make a difference in your community.

The Southside Census Rally will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Southside Plaza, 4100 Hull Street Road. Clovia Lawrence will deliver welcoming remarks, followed by performances by local entertainment acts.

Census volunteers will also be on hand to distribute giveaways and Census gear, as well as helpful information about the 2010 Census and how it will benefit the city of Richmond.

City residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about the 2010 Census. To date, Richmond's 2010 Census mail-in response rate is at 60 percent. For more information, visit the city of Richmond's Census website at
