Two injured trying to escape house fire

DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) – Two people were sent to the hospital Sunday morning trying to escape a burning building in Dinwiddie.

Around 8:15 a.m. fire crews from Dinwiddie, Petersburg and Chesterfield responded to the 25000 block of Surry Ave. for a fully involved house fire.

Of the three people inside the home, firefighters say only one escaped unharmed.

One occupant was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation.

Another was taken via helicopter to VCU Medical Center for significant burns.

Authorities say their condition was not immediately available.

The Red Cross is helping the family find shelter.

Investigators are now looking into what caused the blaze.
