Neighbor defend man convicted of making sexually explicit tape with minors

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A south Richmond home is the scene where a sex crime against children was committed. 60 year old Frederick Botkin Senior made a sexually explicit video involving 2 girls both under the age of 13. Neighbors however are on his side.

"I can believe he did that you know being funny, thinking he was being funny," said neighbor, Valerie Gray. When asked if she thought it was just a joke she said "Uh-huh. I know the kind of man that he was."

Valerie Gray has known Botkin for 12 years but doesn't believe his intentions were hurtful even though he pleaded guilty to producing the tape.

"I mean the man didn't even take his clothes off!" said Gray.

But what he did do is a bit disturbing.

"There's sexual molestation as well as handcuffs," said prosecutor, Christopher Toepp. "They're wearing lingerie essentially."

We knocked on the door to the home hoping for answers. The person who answered the door wouldn't say anything but that Botkin was his father. Gray still defends him. She would even trust him to this day with her children.

"Yes, I trust the man," said Gray. "He's got some quirks you know, he's a weird little kind of guy but he's a nice guy. He's a sweet guy. Fred your idiotic actions really got you in some real trouble this time!"
