Long before the state banned smoking in restaurants, it had already banned smoking in restaurant kitchens. That's so your food won't be contaminated by the cigarettes or smoke. When a health inspector wrote up a restaurant for smoking in the kitchen, we went straight over.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Make sure raw beef patties are handled properly with clean hands and gloves. That was the message from health inspectors for a couple of local restaurants that are in this NBC 12 Restaurant Report.
In Richmond, DJ's Fresh Garden Café at 701 East Franklin Street had 4 critical violations. The report says an employee was observed handling raw beef patties, then handling ready-to-eat salads without changing gloves. All violations were corrected during the inspection. A follow-up inspection report is not yet available. We called the restaurant but have not received comment.
In Henrico, McDonald's at 7118 West Broad Street had 4 critical violations. The inspector wrote, "Observed no handwashing by burger cook. Raw patties placed on grill and no handwashing observed before placing clean gloves on." A McDonald's spokesperson has told us that violations are always addressed and corrected. A follow-up inspection report is not yet available.
This week's NBC 12 Hall of Fame Award goes to Domino's Pizza at 7076 Mechanicsville Turnpike in Mechanicsville. Not even a pepperoni was out of place at this pizza maker. It's had perfect scores on its last four state health inspections.
