RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A bond hearing took place this morning for the man accused of driving drunk before a deadly accident that killed his friend.
According to his defense attorney, John Honey, Nicholas Brooks, 21, was granted a $15,000 bond. He is required to attend pre-trial services which include no alcohol, no illegal drugs and a 9 p.m. curfew. His next court date is June 23.
Honey said Brooks hopes to be home with his family by this afternoon.
Brooks was arrested on charges of DUI. He had been in jail since Tuesday morning, after an incident in which his friend, 19-year-old Drew Johnson, was killed.
Witnesses said Johnson was struck by a car driven by Brooks while in the process of trying to stop Brooks from driving.
