CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – The neighborhoods are supposed to be high end living, but the entrance to Magnolia Green is the only high-end extra you'll find right now in the 1800 acre community.
"We were expecting the golf-course neighborhood with all the bells and whistles. Sidewalks and biking paths for the kids, playgrounds, pools, the works," said Jennifer Matha-Mund.
Jennifer is not holding her breath. She moved here in 2008- a year before the development went into foreclosure and into the hands of its lender, I-Star Financial.
"We make our own adventures in the meantime while we're waiting for our amenities to one day appear," she said.
Rick Melchor is hoping his company scores big with residents. Atack Properties is now in-charge of progressing Magnolia Green.
"We're going to complete the front entrance of the community on Hull Street road in June," Melchor said.
He says, amenities like a pool, tennis courts, and club house won't be scaled back.
"They want to have the first nine holes of the golf course; they're going to have a temporary pro shop. Honestly, we don't get excited anymore because it's been so many disappointments on after another," Jennifer said.
"If we say it's going to be done, we're going to complete it, we're going to open it," said Melchor.
And with more homes underway, now more than ever, does Magnolia Green have to follow through with its plans.
"I hope that doesn't go away because who doesn't want to live on a resort?" asked Jennifer.
The entire project will take about 20 years to complete. There's space available for more than 3500 homes.
