RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Authorities say a Crime Stoppers tip received at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, led them to 56-year-old Ralph Leon Jackson.
He was arrested without incident at his home in Augusta County around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Augusta County's sheriff said they found the gun, ammunition and vehicle allegedly used in Monday night's double shooting on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
An 18 year old woman and a 27 year old man were in a car watching the sun set when they were both shot and wounded. Both remain hospitalized tonight.
Authorities say they have no motive in this case, but say that Crime Stoppers tip received overnight was key.
"The Crime Stoppers tip was very crucial. It contained detailed information that, let me say this, that only the person committed the crime would have known or somebody that was told about the crime," said Augusta County Sheriff Randy Fisher.
"There is no doubt we have in custody the person responsible for the April 5 shooting. So the public can breathe somewhat easier that there is not a mad gunman – well I'm not going to say there isn't another mad gunman somewhere, but this guy is in custody."
Jackson has been charged with attempted capital murder, attempted murder and two counts of using or displaying a firearm in a felony. Jackson is being held at Middle River Regional Jail pending a court appearance.
The Augusta County sheriff says they're still working out if he will face state and federal charges as well.
The sheriff also said that Jackson had already made incriminating statements after his arrest, but he wouldn't elaborate. There is still no clear motive.
