HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Four Ukrop's stores closed for the last time Saturday only to re-open as the new Martin's next Monday.

It was a bittersweet ending to a long relationship with it's customers who were sad to see it go but happy to see some of the new changes to come.

The Ukrop's in Short Pump will get a Martin's makeover this next week.

They'll be given a fresh coat of paint and new lighting.

They'll also sell beer and wine and open an extra day.

"We'll be able to shop on Sundays that's obviously one big difference," said Ukrop's shopper Doug Allen. "That'll be a change but otherwise we'll have to wait and see."

Shoppers on this final day said they will give Martin's a try, but...

"I'm sad," said Kim Onder. "Just the fact that it's not going to be here anymore, and it's always been here."

The close left shoppers a bit nostalgic as they pushed their last Ukrops carts across the Short Pump parking lot.

But it's not like everything Ukrop's will go.

"It's going to be different we know that, but I don't think it's going to be that much different," said Onder.

She's right.

The baked goods will still be made by the Ukrop's family and the area in the stores will be called Ukrop's Cafes but most importantly shoppers hope the service stays the same.

"The customer service, I know the food is still going to be there, the prepared food, which is great but the customer service is what that's all about," said Onder.

Also closed Saturday were the shops at Glen Allen, Williamsburg, and Colonial Heights.

All four will re-open as Martin's Food Markets a week from Monday.
