RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Ukrop's stores are about to disappear, bringing in the era of Martin's.

"We'll have the best of two companies, Ukrop's and Giant-Martin's," said Glen Allen Ukrop's Manager Kenny Crowe.

Glen Allen's store, the Williamsburg Ukrop's, the Short Pump store and the Ukrop's in Colonial Heights will close their doors for one week starting Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.

They'll be given a fresh coat of paint, new lighting. They'll open on Sundays and sell beer and wine. However, the Ukrop's name won't entirely disappear from the stores. The baked goods will still be made by the Ukrop's family and you'll still see their name on the cups and napkins in the Cafes. In fact, all the cafes in Martin's stores will be called Ukrop's cafes.

"Our kitchen, our bakery products are well known, that is great thing Martin's is keeping that will help enhance their name," said Crowe.

Martin's Bonus Cards will go into effect when the stores re-open so you'll need to sign up for one. And the stores will have the easy program, where you can scan your own groceries as you shop.

Changes are coming, but this last day before it happens left shoppers a little nostalgic.

"We hate to lose the Ukrop's name but as long as they keep the food the same way, and the people the same way. We'll be back," said Caroline and Claude Arthur.

Britten Gourley added, "I've been here all these years so I must have loved it." When asked if she'll give Martin's a change, Gourley responded, "Oh yeah. I will. I'll come."

The four stores will officially re-open their doors as a Martin's on Monday April 12 at 8:00 a.m.
