RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The same system that's brought rain to our area left behind lots of damage to the Southeast.

A strong line of spring storms spawned at least two tornados in North Carolina. Parts of south Florida are under a tornado watch.

The strong winds snapped the steeple right off a church in western North Carolina. Other parts of the state got slammed with hail - some of it as big as golf balls - and flooding rain.

Dozens of homes have been damaged. There have even been some evacuations. There are currently only a handful of injuries.

Witnesses spotted eight tornados between Charlotte and Greensboro, but the National Weather Service hasn't confirmed the sightings yet.

Hundreds of lightning strikes were also reported.

A state of emergency has been declared in Davidson county, south of Winston-Salem.

Thousands of people are without power this morning.
