Local runners achieve low times in annual 10k

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Thousands of runners hit the streets of Richmond Saturday morning to participate in the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k.

While many athletes came from out of town, several local runners took top honors.

Finishing first in the men's open was 27-year-old Alene Reta of New York with a time of 28:26.

Close behind was 23-year-old Kumsa Adunga with a time of 29:18.

23-year-old Richmond native Jon Molz took home sixth place in the men's open with a time of 30:51.

In the women's open 28-year-old Megan Wright of Morgantown, WV finished with a time of 33:06.

Second was 28-year-old Samia Akbar from Herndon, VA with a time of 33:19.

From Richmond, 22-year-old Mary Bertram took seventh in the women's open with a time of 36:22.
