Mayor looking into pursuit procedure

By Evrod Cassimy – bio | email

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones is asking for a full review of procedure when law enforcement officials are engaged in high speed pursuits across jurisdictions. His request is because of this crash, the result of a high speed police chase that killed House of Prayer Pastor, Anthony Taylor.

"It is definitely a devastating loss," said assistant pastor, Antoine Brown. "He was a great and faithful member to this congregation for 18 years and worked so very hard in this community. I mean a very great pillar in this community."

Thursday night, church members were still in good spirits as they waved goodbye to part of their congregation going on a missions trip. The trip was a project Taylor was working on before the tragic crash took his life. Despite the pastor's untimely death, church at United House of Prayer will go on as normal on Sunday. It's something Pastor Taylor would have wanted members of his congregation to do.

"I'm going to miss him and I'm going to love him and I'm going to keep on going like he taught me," said Brown.

In a statement, Mayor Dwight Jones says, "We must ensure the safety and protection of our residents and that our neighborhoods and communities are not compromised…I want to be sure that we don't have reckless pursuits that discount the safety of innocent bystanders."
