RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -- Richmond Police are investigating why a driver was running away from Henrico County Police that led to a crash in the Church Hill district last night.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. last night at the intersection of 31st and P Streets in Church Hill.

Richmond Police have charged Darryl M. Harris, 26, of the 600 block of North Laburnum Avenue, with felony eluding police and manslaughter in connection with last night's fatal crash.

Henrico Police say Harris attempted to elude officers at a traffic checkpoint at Nine Mile Road at the I-64 overpass.  Charges are pending in Henrico County regarding reckless driving and evidence found at the scene of the accident.

Officers say the white Pontiac that was being chased by Henrico County Police slammed into a pickup truck. The truck driver was killed. The suspect had minor injuries and was arrested.

The person killed was identified this morning as Anthony L. Taylor, 44, of the 500 block of Brook Road, a longtime pastor of the United House of Prayer for All People on Chimborazo Boulevard.

Officers say chases don't happen often, but you should always be aware of your surroundings.
