Sen. Warner rallies for health care at Jefferson Jackson Dinner

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The prestigious Jefferson Jackson Dinner was held Saturday evening in Richmond.

It was a who's who list of Virginia's Democratic leaders including former governors, and senators past and present.

U.S. Senator Mark Warner introduced the keynote speaker Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar saying she is the funniest Senator from the state.

But not before showing support for Sunday's health care reform vote.

"Starting tomorrow in the House and late next week in the Senate, we'll pass healthcare for America," said Sen. Warner.

"When you think about it, Minnesota and Virginia aren't really that different," said Sen. Klobuchar. "Virginia is the Internet capital of the world, Minnesota is the Post-It capital of the world. You produce presidents, we produce vice presidents who run for presidents."

Klobuchar is referring to Minnesota vice-presidents Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale who lost presidential elections to Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.

No word yet on how much money was raised at the event.

Last year's Jefferson Jackson Dinner, brought in about $700,000.

The keynote speaker was former president Bill Clinton.
