RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – As you might imagine school spirit is high as the Spiders have had a great season, and no matter what happens just making it into the NCAA tournament is a big accomplishment.

A great year for Spider basketball has translated to a great year for the campus bookstore. Especially this past week, a lot of people have been coming in to make purchases. Brand new T-shirts complete with brackets went on sale this week in the UR bookstore, and they've been flying out of the table.

"We've been selling shirts all week, and it's been an enthusiasm we haven't seen since the football team won, and for basketball, it's been quite a while," said Roger Brooks, Bookstore General Manager.

Bookstore employees say they've even been sending shirts all across the country to alumni and others excited about the game. A lot of people are just happy to see the Spiders come so far--especially seniors and those who've worked on campus for a long time.

"I was here when they went to the sweet 16, and it's been a great long run for the Spiders with basketball, and it's been a lot of excitement, going to Kansas and beating campus, there's been a lot of things to make this program strong and keep growing," Brooks said.

UR students are excited too--especially first-years who say these athletes give them something to look forward too over the next three years.

"I do the bracket with my friends every year, and to actually see my school being on it is really exciting, so I think everyone is really excited about it," said first year student Emma Phillips. "Especially with football too, I think this was the perfect year to come to school."

Bottom line, win or lose the tournament, everyone on this campus thinks the Spiders being in it at all is a win for this school.

And congratulations go out to another Virginia team, which scored the tournament's first upset today. With a three-pointer in the final seconds of game, Old Dominion beat Notre Dame 51-50.
