Convicted killer executed Thursday night

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Thursday night, Virginia executed a man who killed a teenage girl.

31 year old Paul Warner Powell was pronounced dead at 9:09 after choosing to die by electric chair.

Powell was convicted of stabbing the 16 year old Manassas girl to death in 2000, but the Virginia Supreme Court overturned that verdict.

Later, Powell wrote a taunting letter to prosecutors detailing the crime, and he wound up being convicted again three years later.
