PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - A local babysitter is charged in the death of a seven month old baby girl. We have new information about how the little girl died. That babysitter, 54 year old Linda Grant, is charged with child neglect, but we've learned the death has been ruled a homicide. Grant is out on bond awaiting her day in court

Ke'Azia Peterson had been in Linda Grant's care for less than two weeks. On the same day the baby was laid to rest in Petersburg, The State Medical Examiner's Office here in Richmond, revealed how she died.

A play house, swing set, and other children's toys decorate the backyard of a home on Vesonder Road in Petersburg where neighbors say Grant has lived for years. The home is empty on this night.

One week after Ke'Azia was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center. Police say Grant claimed the baby had fallen off a futon and was unresponsive last Monday. Ke'Azia died the next day at VCU Medical Center.

According to Steve Murman with the State Medical Examiner's Office, Ke'Azia died of "inflicted blunt force trauma to the head" and her death was ruled a homicide. Petersburg police told NBC12 they couldn't comment on that ruling because they were told the autopsy hadn't been completed.

Neighbors say Grant has cared for children for many years, three at the most at any one time. Police say she started babysitting the little girl who died on February 24.

Neighbors were shocked to hear the news, but didn't want to go on camera. They did say Grant seemed to take good care of the children she watched and was always in the yard playing with them.

We spoke with Ke'Azia Peterson's family but no one wanted to speak on camera about this child's death. No word yet on when Grant will appear in Petersburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
