Powell faces electric chair Thursday

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Unless the U.S. Supreme Court intercedes, a man convicted of killing his teenage friend will be put to death in the week ahead.

Paul Warner Powell is scheduled to die in the electric chair on Thursday at 9 p.m.

Governor Bob McDonnell has already declined to intervene.

After his death sentence was overturned by the Virginia Supreme Court, Powell sent a four-page letter to prosecutors, bragging, with details about how he committed the crime.

But then, that letter was used against him - and the death penalty was reinstated.
