RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - All of the weekend rain is causing the James River to rise quickly.

Right now, the water is at dangerous levels. It's just a good idea to stay away and off of the river.

The water level at Westham Gage is above 12 feet and rising.

The National Weather Service expects water to be near 13-and-a-half feet around 8 p.m. Monday.

We all know how dangerous the river can be in these conditions - make sure you don't put your life at risk right now.

In fact, that might be something to think about for a while.

Levels will be above five feet for quite some time, which means everyone on the river "must" wear a life jacket.
