HENRICO (WWBT)- A Glen Allen grandmother is black and blue in the face after getting beaten up in her home.
It happened just before dawn Sunday...when a suspect invaded her home.
She is known as the "sweet lady and perfect neighbor".
Neighbors couldn't believe their Pearl Harper, was attacked.
Police say, a male suspect forced his way inside Harper's home on Longdale Avenue...attacked her...and then fought with her grandson who tried to come to his grandmother's rescue.
Police say the grandson, pulled a handgun and shot the suspect.
The suspect suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower abdomen.
But as he recovers in the hospital.
Harper is recovering at home with a broken, swollen lip, bruises on her hands and forehead...it was clear she was badly hurt.
Harper's next door neighbor June Anderson says hearing the story breaks her heart.
Police say the motive appears to be a robbery...but tell us the suspect knew the grandson.
Police say they are waiting to interview the suspect recovering in the hospital ... before any charges are filed.
