Tire business catches fire

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A fire at a tire store forces firefighters to close down one block of Chamberlayne Avenue in both directions Saturday night. Tire fires are toxic in many cases and especially difficult to put out, making this fire a major concern.

Around 6:45 p.m. several people called 9-1-1 to report the blaze at Sam's New and Used Tires.

Richmond didn't waste any time, sending ten units and three ladder trucks to the 1700 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. Firefighters had to stay outside the building because of the danger posed by the tires inside.

It took thirty minutes to get the fire under control. One block of Chamberlayne Avenue was closed for a couple of hours. The building was damaged, but not destroyed.

No one was injured in the fire. Investigators are now looking for the cause of the fire.
